BSC Gives Out 2023 Student Development Leadership Awards

On Saturday, October 14, at halftime of the Homecoming football game, twelve BSC students received a Student Development Leadership Award in recognition of their outstanding and significant impact on campus.

The Most Outstanding Greek Representative celebrates individuals within the BSC Greek community who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to their organization’s values. This year’s recipients are Becca Sullivan, a senior Collaborative Education major from Brentwood, Tennessee, and Will Slaughter, a junior Accounting major and English Writing minor from Cumming, Georgia.

The Residential Excellence Award honors students who have shown exceptional leadership within BSC residence life. This year’s winners are Jay Raby, a junior Health Science major and Business Administration minor from Bessemer, and Jalen McDade, a junior Biology major and Psychology minor from Montgomery. 

The Diversity and Inclusion Award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding contributions to promote diversity and inclusion on the BSC campus. This year’s winners are Matt Dale, a senior Biology major with a Distinction in Black Studies from Birmingham, and Nicole Villavicencio-Garduño, a junior Applied Computer Science major and Data Science minor from Jasper.

Pyunn Ntwari

The Rising Student Leader Award acknowledges students who have demonstrated remarkable leadership skills and dedication upon arriving at BSC. This year’s winners are Pyunn Ntwari, a sophomore Chemistry major and Urban Environmental Studies minor from Kigali, Rwanda, and Wesley Brown, a junior Religion major and History minor from Columbus, Georgia. 

The 1856 Legacy Award pays tribute to the student leaders who have left an enduring impact on BSC and who exemplify our mission and commitment to the betterment of our community. This year’s winners are Mark Middleton, a junior double major in Theatre and English from Auburn, and Xuan Huynh, a junior Business major from Hueytown. 

Lastly, The Hilltop Award celebrates those whose contributions often go unnoticed, but are indispensable. This year’s winners are Emily Mahomar, a senior Business Marketing major and Psychology minor from Tegucigalpa, Honduras, and Lindsey Hitchcock, a senior Religion major from Huntsville.
