To register your child or grandchild for BSC’s Seedlings Program, find more information here. Children will receive a special birthday card each year from the Office of Alumni Engagement, as well as invitations to age-appropriate events if they live in the Birmingham area.

Dr. Kathryn Marie Ray ’87, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ascension St. Alexis Medical Center in Chicago, was recognized by The Inner Circle as a Top Pinnacle Professional. At BSC, she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and German. She earned her medical degree at Finch University of Health Sciences/The Chicago Medical School where she received the Dean’s Award and served as student council president. She is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Shelley Puckett ’98 has been promoted to the role of Campaign Administrator at BSC, where she had previously served as the Prospect Research Coordinator since 2021. A math major, she previously worked as a Customer Service Representative at Weygand Insurance in Chelsea.

Heather Milam MPPM ’11 has joined the BSC team as the Director of Alumni Engagement. An Auburn graduate, she comes to the Hilltop after serving as the Director of Acceleration at the Innovation Depot, which fosters and supports startups. From 2011-2017, Milam was the owner and general manager of Weld, a Birmingham city newspaper, and taught organizational and entrepreneurial management at the University of Montevallo.

Wes Guilford ’21 has signed with the Helsinki Roosters, a Finnish professional football team. Guilford will play defensive back for the Roosters, just as he did at BSC, where he made the All-SAA Team twice and was often among the nation’s leaders in passes defended.

Tucker Carden ’22 is the new Communications Coordinator at BSC, where he is responsible for internal and external communications for the College, as well as running social media. An English major in college, Carden was a member of Sigma Chi, a Southern Ambassador, and an editor for the Southern Academic Review and The Western Border literary magazine. He previously worked in BSC’s Alumni Engagement office.

Landon Dawson ’23 is the new Coordinator of Student Development/Fitness and Recreation, where he is responsible for running daily operations in the Striplin Fitness Center. A biology major from Florence, he was involved with Reformed University Fellowship as a student.

Mary Mellown ’23 has joined the BSC team as Annual Giving Coordinator. A history major at BSC, where she sang in the concert choir, she interned in the Advancement office during her junior and senior years and also served as a Panther Peer Mentor. Mellown teaches guitar, mandolin, and banjo, and has an Etsy shop selling handmade macrame products.

Ashley Williams ’23 is the new Coordinator of Student Development/Residence Life and Student Involvement. A consumer behavior major and political science minor, she served in social media and marketing roles for BSC First Generation Students and BSC Intramural Sports.

Earl Winston Bradberry ’64 of Hueytown on June 8. After graduating with a degree in mathematics, Bradberry taught high school math for 29 years, the majority of those at Jones Valley High School. He and his wife Sabina spent many joyful days at the Gulf Coast, where they enjoyed multi-family vacations.

Frances Wamp Brindley ‘57 of Pensacola on June 15. A Cullman native, she earned a degree in music education and enjoyed a short career as a music teacher in Cullman, Fairfield, and DeLand, Fla. Brindley often traveled to South Florida and Nassau as a synchronized swimmer. She served as a choir director and piano teacher, and was involved with Community Concert, Junior Women’s League, and the board of directors for Cullman Parks and Recreation.

Leon Franklin Chambers ’50 of Fairhope on June 2. Chambers was a lieutenant commander in the U.S. Navy and a captain in the U.S. Army, serving for 34 years, including during World War II. HE worked for Univac for 30 years as a systems analyst. He chaired the Jefferson County Planning Commission and the Jefferson County Zoning Board, and was President of the Homewood City Council. Chambers was the youth leader at Trinity United Methodist Church, and an usher and historian at Fairhope United Methodist Church. He and his wife, the late Dorothy Thompson Chambers ‘47, were charter members of The Club, where they loved to dance. Chambers is survived by his daughter, Celeste Chambers Neil ’73, and grandchildren Ryan Neil ’02 and Jessica Carson ’06.

Bynum Waters Ensor ’59 of Vestavia Hills on June 9. Ensor majored in business administration and was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. She was active at Leeds First United Methodist Church and an avid horse lover.

Sallie Cole Creel Farmer MPPM ’01 of Wilsonville on May 24. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama, Farmer launched a successful rental car company and served as its president. Widely known as a pioneering female entrepreneur, she received many accolades, including the Birmingham Area Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Small Business Person of the Year in 1984, and was one of the first two women to join the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham in 1987. She was also the second woman inducted into the Birmingham Business Hall of Fame. Farmer was an active member of Canterbury United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, exercising, and caring for animals. A lifelong learner, Farmer earned a Master of Public and Private Management degree in 2001.

Dr. Barry Isenberg ’61 of Murphy, N.C., on June 8. A Birmingham native, Isenberg was a proud graduate of Ramsay High School, Birmingham-Southern, and the School of Dentistry at UAB. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, he opened a dental practice in Birmingham, and then taught at the School of Dentistry for 30 years, retiring as Professor Emeritus.

Grady Jerome “Jerry” Norris ’62 of Arlington, Va., on June 14. While a student at BSC, Norris also worked as a reporter for the Birmingham Post-Herald. His graduation from ‘Southern was delayed by a stint in the U.S. Army, but he was immediately able to pursue a law degree from the University of Chicago. From 1965 to 1969, Norris was a trial attorney with the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he was part of a group of young lawyers traveling to federal courts throughout the South to enforce the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Along with his colleagues, he oversaw voter registration efforts in Selma after the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Norris was also the co-author of the Fair Housing law under the Civil Rights Act of 1968. He worked in management at the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Atlanta. After his retirement in 1993, he and his wife, Anne enjoyed living at their picturesque home in New Bern, NC. Norris loved writing and photography, and was a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan.

Virginia Jo Dugger Robertson ’49 of Birmingham on June 11. After graduating from BSC, Robertson taught at various schools in the Birmingham area for almost 35 years, particularly enjoying working with special needs children. She and her husband, Thurman, enjoyed traveling and volunteering at the Alabama Theatre in their retirement. She was an active member of Huffman United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir.
